Gaige House + Ryokan (Sonoma Valley, California):
Sonoma Valley’s recently redesigned Gaige House + Ryokan is situated in the heart of California’s wine country and offers moms a serene setting to quietly reflect while also enjoying the uninterrupted views of the surrounding vineyards. Whether it’s relaxing on the Moon Deck while reading a good book and sipping a glass of wine, or just soaking in the beauty of the Zen gardens, there is a variety of relaxing spaces throughout the property. Moms can also enjoy the Zen rock or “dry landscape” garden, known as karesansui in Japan, which is a miniature, stylized landscape created with a carefully composed arrangement of rocks, water features, moss, pruned trees, and bushes. Gaige House’s Ryokan suites also feature a private Zen garden and a pagoda, an excellent focal point during meditation. New to Sonoma, the inn also provides guests with information and prime locals for “forest bathing,” a new trend for mindfulness exploration in nature.

A layer of moisture should follow the exfoliation to hydrate and nourish the skin on hands, body and face.” Here are three spa services ideal for spring spa-going mothers and daughters:
•ZENTS Ultimate Luxury Wrap begins with a shea-butter exfoliation followed by a rich mineral wrap to replenish skin and a warm oil scalp massage. It ends with a full-body massage using natural jojoba oil mixed with the guest’s scent of choice. 80 minutes; $225.
