Known for its innovative spa and wellness treatments, Miraval has done it again with the introduction of its brand new Himalayan Sound Bath. Created by Master Healer Pam Lancaster (the brains behind the signature Shuniya Sound Ceremony), this therapy helps “tune your body into its natural state,” creating emotional, mental, and spiritual balance via the sound that radiates through the water from ancient healing bowls. The treatment is meant to increase mental clarity, relieve stress, and decrease anxiety.
Drawing on the healing arts of Tibetan bowls, Kundulini yoga gong baths, and tuning forks, the therapy combines traditional Thai massage, Chi nei tsang, and Shiatsu. So just how did this come to be? Lancaster, shown in the photo above, has more than 18 years of experience in the fields of holistic healing, spiritual counseling, and integrative medicine. She explains, “As I was using water inside the bowls to bring deeper relaxation and healing during my Shuniya Sound Ceremony, it occurred to me to explore the benefits of being submerged in water while receiving the tones and vibrations of the bowls. The idea that vibration travels through water at a faster rate and our body is made up of mostly water, it seemed like a natural fit to bring this healing modality to the pool.”
The Himalayan Sound Bath is an opportunity to go beyond the physical. “When the body relaxes deeply, as it does when receiving sound healing vibrations and floating weightlessly, the mind can cease to chatter,” says Lancaster. “When the body and mind are quiet, all of your body systems are given an opportunity to focus on and experience the fundamental essence of your being.”
