Montage Hotels & Resorts founder and CEO Alan Fuerstman recently announced the launch of Pendry Hotels, a new, second brand that will marry the culture of service for which Montage is renowned with an inspired, fashion-forward and design-driven approach to hospitality. In launching Pendry Hotels, the company intends to significantly expand its portfolio of hotels and resorts, which today includes five distinctive Montage-branded properties in Laguna Beach and Beverly Hills, California; Deer Valley, Utah; Kapalua Bay, Maui, Hawaii; and Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina.
Co-founded with Fuerstman’s eldest son, Michael Fuerstman, Pendry Hotels will sit at the crossroads of lifestyle and luxury hospitality. Accommodations, culinary, and entertainment experiences will be tasteful and playful and have a quality that appeals to a broad range of discerning and well-traveled patrons and guests.
“When we discovered that the British surname Pendry embraces ‘Know Thyself’ as its family motto, we knew we had found a brand identification that speaks to the aspirational ethos of our customer . . . self-aware, confident, intellectually curious, and engaged,” explained Alan Fuerstman.
As co-founder and creative director of Pendry Hotels, Michael Fuerstman will spearhead the brand’s rollout, including the creation of the first Pendry property, Pendry San Diego, in addition to working on future Pendry Hotel developments. Fuerstman embarks on growing Pendry Hotels after a brief career as an internet entrepreneur and six years working with Montage Hotels & Resorts on the company’s real estate and acquisitions teams.
“Pendry Hotels will fill a void between the lifestyle and luxury hotel spaces,” said Michael Fuerstman. “Design and service, a bit of heritage and modern sensibility, and never-ever overly trendy. Think: London hip, New York paced, and California healthy. We’re incredibly excited to bring this vision of hospitality to life.”

Scheduled to open in 2016, Pendry San Diego will feature 317 guest rooms, including 36 suites, a rooftop pool, two uniquely designed restaurants, an ultra-lounge, a beer hall, a spa and energizing fitness facility, and over 22,000 square feet of meeting space.
The developers of Pendry San Diego are The Robert Green Company of Encinitas, California, and Montage Hotels & Resorts. The architect is Awbrey Cook Rogers McGill of San Diego. The general contractor is Davis Reed Construction, headquartered in Houston.
